WORKSHOP: Easing Needle Anxiety and Phobia: adding aromatherapy to your therapeutic toolbox
Ann Carter BA Health Ed. Cert Ed Cert NLP Dip NM originally trained in Aromatherapy in the early 1990s and has had an extensive career in supportive and palliative care. She has worked in hospices and the acute oncology sector helping to establish the CALM service at The Christie (Manchester, UK). Additionally, she has run courses for therapists both in the UK and overseas, co-edited four books and contributed book chapters and co-written numerous papers. Ann is currently supporting a day hospice in relaunching its complementary therapy department after a major organisation.
Her greatest achievement is in the creation of a sensory based therapeutic approach ; The HEARTS Process which involves the skilful use of touch through a fabric, the sound of the human voice and aromas.
With the emergence of the pandemic, Ann and Peter Mackereth have developed online Zoom courses with The Christie and The National Association of Complementary Therapists in Hospice and Palliative Care. Recently they have delivered an online course on the Therapeutic Uses of Aromasticks – which included approaches to easing anxiety and distress associated with medical procedures.
