From Past to Present: The current status of Kampo medicine (Japanese Traditional Medicine)
With thirty years in Japanese medical practice, Dr. Akiko Kogure is a highly respected Tokyo physician as well as a passionate advocate of Japanese traditional medicine and an experienced Kampo lecturer, practitioner and broadcaster.
Integrating Western medical practice with Japanese traditional medicine, Dr. Kogure also lecturers in Kampo Medicine at Tokyo Women’s Medical University, from where she graduated in Western medicine in 1992.
She worked as a gastrointestinal specialist and breast surgeon for 15 years before joining Médecins Sans Frontières (2007) which took her to Liberia in Africa.
Dr. Kogure’s expertise in Kampo Medicine came from first-hand experience through her own intensive research of menopausal changes in women and a study of the benefits of Kampo Medicine on menopause. As a consequence of her work, she dedicated her energy to an exploration of the holistic benefits of Kampo and further studies with Dr. Kosuge Takaaki at Yokohama Suzaku Kampo Medical Centre gaining full Kampo certification in 2011.
She looks forward to sharing her insight and knowledge with a wider audience of like-minded individuals, especially in the UK and Europe where she is excited by the opportunity of speaking at Botanica2022.
